Shantanu has been instrumental in establishing an ecosystem in India for enforcement cum compliance of software piracy cases. He has added over 17 new multinational Software/ IT clients to the firm’s client base which are actively running anti software piracy enforcement and compliance campaigns in India. Having successfully represented various software companies in about 700 mediations (ADRs) in the Delhi High Court Mediation Centre since 2018, Shantanu has been rigorously advising/representing firms’ numerous clients (international and domestic) towards their anti-counterfeiting campaigns in India. On the cyber security front, Shantanu has been on the forefront in initiating a series of criminal actions and civil cases against various call centres in Delhi who were the perpetrators of tech support frauds misrepresenting Microsoft Corporation globally.
Some Landmarks:
- Successfully closed deal against a counterfeiter in getting damages worth 500K USD in just two days for a Germany-based ball bearing company
- Successfully filed a lawsuit on behalf of a US based software client in the Delhi High Court and settled the matter with the infringer vide which the infringer committed to procuring genuine software licenses worth one million USD.
- Successfully conducted criminal raids simultaneously at nine (9) locations in Delhi in a Tech Support Scam matter, on behalf of Microsoft in 2018. These actions (which had huge domestic and global media coverage) have now sensitised the cyber crime officials of the Delhi Police to such an extent that now they are conducting various Suo motu actions in similar cases concerning other IT companies in Delhi and elsewhere. - When due to Covid-19 induced lockdowns the Courts were shut physically, Shantanu, along with his team, was instrumental in advising the Delhi High Court Mediation Centres in commencing online mediations via Cisco Webex
- Successfully initiated a takedown campaign for Microsoft Corporation that involved sale of infringing MS software programs in various third-party e commerce platforms such as Amazon
- Provided a fool proof business continuity plan to our firm’s various software and IT clients to steer away from the market slump due to Covid-19 pandemic
- Successfully initiated a damages-based litigation campaign for our various Software clients in Delhi High Court where the evidence of infringement has been captured using phone-home technology
- Filed about 125 pre litigation mediations in Delhi High Court on behalf of about 10 software clients that resulted in generation of revenues worth 6 million USD even during the peak of Covid crisis
- Successfully advised four global software companies namely Bentley Systems, Cadence Design Systems, Data Kit and InstaShield into initiating an effective software anti-piracy cum compliance campaign in India
